I put in on the Menominee Saturday and motored up the mouth of the Pine River in Florence county. I had Kevin Johnson from Gladstone Mich fishing with me.
Our target was walleyes but they were not cooperating in a typical post spawn experience. We jigged and rigged several deeper holes and found the small(22-26″) pike very hungry. We got into some rip rap and I put on a small gold jig/grub combo out there and Bang! a scrappy Smallie.
We got out my light action rods and had a ball the next hour, catching several(mostly smaller males) bass. We didn’t find the eyes but the Smallie action is just around the corner. Time to get after em!
