looking at tff area as a possible vacation spot this summer so far it sounds like navigation might be tricky but the walleye fishing might be worth it. also looks like theres plenty of attractions in the area for a day trip for the family. will be in late july and just wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge of the area.

I’ve fished this body of water for the last 15 years.

I could point you in a good direction for lodging. Set some money aside to hire a guide for one day. I know of two excellent ones. It is money well spent. The walleye fishing is really good and the smallmouth is better. Also perch, muskie and crappie. Don’t bother with the pike. You will catch them but they are stunted. mbenson is a member here and he could help also.

any info on lodging would be great. been stumbling around on websites but some firsthand info would be very helpful. mbenson was helpful a couple of years ago when we went to big arb in vilas co. we had a great trip but looking for a little more productive lake. the deadhorse resort is tops on our list for now.

try http://www.northlandlodging.com for accomodations. Doc is also a top notch guide. I’ve fished with him several times. He has a partner in the guiding business also, Don Pemble. Top notch also.

    Boys:

How is every one doing. Ah to think about the tff again. We have a big group (17, I think) going up there to fish either next week or the week following. Finally getting some decent ice up here, although the big lakes are still a little scary for truck traffic. Fishing Dam Lake tomorrow for the Knockers tourney. Sitting in the truck and going to let ‘er run all day long!!!

Most of the resorts I am familiar with are on the south side just west of the dam. We used to stay at Donner’s Bay and understand it is still recommendable. There is one or two others in that area also. The boys are staying at Donners the first night and moving to the east one resort next week. Lake Bastine just to the west of this area also had at least one on it, don’t know if it is still in operation though.

SteveO is right on with Doc and Don!!! Hire one of them for the first day and enjoy the rest of your trip!!!

They have been hammering ’em on Big Arb this winter, den. I also got my first musky off of it this fall. Enough for now, will let you know more after the trip up there next week…
