I was on Big Round again yesterday; I have to say the day was absolutely beautiful if you like that sort of thing. I on the other hand was hoping for an overcast, snowy, slightly windy day. Better fishing IMHO.
The ice is still around 10 inches even after the rain and snow on 12-31. Not as many guys/shacks/activity as the weekend before.
We were looking for perch and tried a few of the deeper parts with pimples, 2-spots and just plain hook and minnows. The Vex showed all kind of lookers but not many biters.
All that we produced were 3 nice keepers. It was a great day though to share with friends.
I do however have to complain about some people. When we arrived where I wanted to fish, there was trash left by others.
Here was 4-5 big chunks of split fire wood frozen down just waiting for some unlucky soul to collide with it. AND, next to one of them was a long sliver of sheet metal, looked like a piece of steel siding from a shack sticking out of the ice. I tried to get them out but without the spud, I was was out of luck.
If any of you fish in this area, look out for the debris; it’s going to hurt if someone hits it on a snowmobile.
