mustbefishing:
I spent a little time up there when I was just out of college. With five lakes to chose from, it can be a little difficult. We fished with a guide out of Lakewoods who is the chef there. His first name is Dave and he is very good.
He showed us how to skewer fatheads on a plain 1/4 oz. leadhead by running the hook in the mouth and out the gill, then turn the hook point so it goes straight up through the minnow and out the back!!! Great casting bait.
With a map I could kind of help you, but I could not recite any specific spots without being there or a map!!! Hope this helps.
As for the time of year, like our lakes here in Minocqua, start to get going late the second week of May and I would bet that the walleyes would be starting to warm up by then over there as well. It appears that ice out will occur before the opener and that will help. I know last year we were fishing a big clear body of water the second week of the season right at spawning temps in the low 40’s and we got them going on the shoreline breaks. I would look for rock piles that top out high (10′). If I remember rocky shoreline points, if they can be found, were good as well.
