Finally some signs of spring. Snow and cold has dampened some fishing hopes but here is a report on the Menominee River in Marinette, one of the traditional “early” fishing locations.
Menominee River: Overall catch has slowed this past week due to weather with water temperature holding at 35.0F. Walleye off and on with best action taking place in the late evening hours off the Hattie Street Bridge, Huskies and Rapalas producing the best catches. Occasional Steelhead and Brown Trout taken in the area between the First Dam and Hattie Street Bridge drifting spawn or casting Rapalas.
Boat Launch site update.
Mystery Ship Launch Site: Open, ramps in place.
Menominee Boat Marina: Closed, iced in.
Sixth Street Slip: Closed, low water.
Boom Landing: Open, ramps in place.
Stephenson Island: Open, ramps in place.
The Bay of Green Bay off Menominee/Marinette: No activity on the Bay due to pack ice. Boat anglers looking for west winds to clear ice from the river mouth. Hopefully this will take place this coming week.
Bay De Noc Report:
Ice conditions failing fast although this week ended on the cold
side. All shanty’s have been removed except 4 that remain in the
Kipling area. Most area’s are considered dangerous ice at this time. A
few anglers have been going out in the Kipling area but holes are
starting to open all around Butler Island. Still iced in at Nosee-um
creek, I will let you know as soon as it opens. As the ice moves out I
will post to you the launches as they open. Next week we will be adding
Big Bay de Noc to the report. So be patient!, I will update as soon as
things begin to happen.THINK SPRING!!
