I am planning on fishing Balsam for the first time this opener. Anyone have any info that may help narrow my seacrh for good bass water? I have a lake map and it looks like it will be a good lake to fish just wondering if anyone who has some experience on the lake might have some insight they would be willing to share. Anyone else going to be there on the bass opener?
    Thanks,
    Todd

balsam is a great lake in my backyard, it can be tough, clear water, the lake has pretty good weedlines, most however are not fully developed at openeri would say focus on shallower bays and transition areas this time of year, the lake also has a catchable walleye population and some big panfish. I wont be out on the larger lakes on opener, focusions more on smaller less popular lakes to avoid crowds i like fishing this lake during the week, nice and peacefull,

Planning on fishing there on the opener also, but never been there before. Sorry. Maybe you’ll just have to rely on the expertise of your partner?

Welcome to the site skhaartke. Wherever you guys go keep us posted how you do and if you catch any please throw some photo’s our way. If you don’t have a digital camera I’m always willing to scan photo’s for whoever needs it done. I work cheap. All I require is a little blurb on the back of the photo telling about it and a self addresed envelope to send the photo’s back to you. Looking forward to some of your posts. Steve

My club has had a tournament out there the first or second weekend each of the last 3 years on Balsam and the best fish have all come in deep water next to spawing areas. Bomber Fat A’s worked slowly over the green weeds have been the ticket. Typical prespawn bite, fish slow, catch BIG fish. Good luck.
