A friend of mine is looking for advice on where to fish and what to use to put some walleyes in the boat. I have never been to the lake, and know absolutely nothing about it. Any of you guys ever fish it, what is the structure like? What works out there in the fall? Thanks in advance.

I have a place across the street on devils and both lakes are either on or off, best I ever heard of anyone doing was this last opener, lindys and leaches inside weedline, 6 between two in 3 hours. Thats the best I have heard anyone do in the 5 years I have been up there.
Personal I could go on and on and on about how the wi dnr has the head up their with their stocking and slots but I won’t.

Don’t know anything about the walleye fishing on the lake.. The Muskie fishing can be pretty good at times. I have, however, fished the Yelllow River both above and below the lake for Walleyes and it is awesome. You can take a boat up river for a good 1/2 mile or so and downstream you can make it to the dam near Danbury. Any bend with a little deper water upstream will produce this time of year on a jig and fathead… Downstream is a straight run the whole way but the same rig works well near the bridges and any other deeper holes. The Smallmouth this time of year are also usually on a tear in the river. If your buddy wants to venture either way it might be a better gamble than actually fishing the lake.

    Dan,
I’ve fished it several times on opening weekend for walleyes. We fished in front of the Yellow Lake lodge casting floating raps. We’d always do pretty good in the spring. My grandpa had a trailer for several years at the lodge and would fish slip bobbers (leeches) in the evening between the Lodge and Ike Waltons. I’ve caught a few muskies while fishing for walleyes a couple years back. I’m planning on fishing the entire day next Monday for ski’s. Hopefully, I’ll be able to tell you that there are 50 inch fish in the lake too.

Jigging is the primary method I see being used whenever I’m up there. I however, choose to troll and often come into smallies, walleyes, and northerns. I still can’t seem to get a muskie on Big Yellow but I sent a guy up there with some tips (Oct. ’05) and he caught a 50 incher and brought the pics into the store for me to see so I figure it’s a matter of time before I get onto them as well.

I too fish the river system quite frequently and there’s fish of all species to be found back there. It’s got every environement you could hope for so find the one you like and use the knowledge you possess for a lip rippin’ good time!

Be sure to not try and take too large a boat too far down the river……….. you may encounter some complications. An open construction 14-16′ boat can get you anywhere but you still have to pay attention.

I’ll post updates as I continue to work with this fishery and of course, feel free to pm me for any specifics.
