Gillies after dark

Spent Christmas afternoon with my Pops (Pup Sr.) on Squaw Lake and it appeared that no one was having any success. Lots of roaming and constant movement. At about 4pm, we locked into a gill…………and that was it………..until about 4:30, we found another! Most were getting off the ice but right at dark (4:45ish) the gills went on a brief tear! About a dozen later it was decided to go back for the lantern and see if light would keep the bite going………….and it worked! Once we got some light by the holes again we were able to bring in 8 more. That’s the second time that Pops has done that since the hardwater season began. Anyone else seeing this pattern?

When we hung it up, we were all alone on the ice, no moon, and the stars were just brilliant! The night sky alone was worth the wait!

Where is Squaw lake anyway? I haven’t been out much lately but thinking about Island lake for Saturday. Steve

Just a little Southweat of Star Prarie. Can be good. I like it for springtime crappies. ——————-Pax
