That sure looks like hard water to me! Nice photo. It’s about time to get the drill out.

How was the first ice action? Did you make it out?

Couldn’t find anyone to venture out with me so I just went to the lake and walked out about 40 yards. Drilled a hole – about 2 inches of ice. When I jumped a little bit the ice would crack like hell so…..Without someone with me for my own safety, I thought I’d play it smart and wait a few more days. I’ve been through the ice before and it’s not a fun process trying to get yourself back up and that was with snow on the ice. Can’t imagine trying to do it with real slick ice. I promise to report in about a week. The warm, windy weather did not help us.

Good idea Pax! Take a 300# guy like me with you and you have a real good scout ahead of you!

Here in the Iron River, WI area we have 2 to 4 inches of solid ice on most inland lakes. I have seen them fishing the Iron River flowage since Wed. I hope to get out on Sun but want to shoot a deer first. Supposed to get cold again for the next couple days so will make ice to snowmobile on soon.

Hey Tom – I go a solid 260 so I’m not too bad of a scout either… Finally went on Thanksgiving to a small lake near New Richmond. Only had a couple hours before I had to do the turkey day thing. Caught some panfish and only one northern on a tip up which is unusual for that lake. Saw some hunters that had shot a deer and when it ran onto the ice and got halfway across it went through. No-not the lake I was on – this was on some ponds near CO RD E. Anyway the was about 2 -1/2 inches on Thanksgiving. Don’t know if the wind did anything in the last few days but I DO know that the next few days are going to make some great ice. Venture out – I think you’ll be surprised at how thick the ice really is now. I plan on going 1 or 2 more times this week so I’ll try to post later in the week–Over and out——————————————Pax
