Just a quick note to let you all know that there’s been a pretty consistant gill and crappie bite on Wappy these last 2 weeks. Tube jig, 1/16oz., and crawler chunk while trolling. I see lots of folks sitting with bobbers and they either pull itty bittys or leave within 30 minutes of an area where trolling is producing. Don’t know why everyone out there insists on anchoring!?!?!?

Last Saturday we had no less than 6 boats come in to our area and watched us land nice fish. We were the only ones trolling…………..and everyone else left! Trolling IS permitted on Wappy so if anyone who fishes it reads this, TRY IT! Still getting our fish in 7′ or deeper along weed breaks.

Thanks for the info. I’ve been trying to find the time to get up to Wappo and next week looks like it might work
for me. I enjoy crappie fishing very much. When you say you are trolling are you drifting or actually running
the trolling motor at a certain speed? How heavy of a jig are you using with your tubes?

1/16th oz. jig and the troller was generally on forward #2. Unsure what speed that is but that’s what it was! I did find that sometimes slowing to #1 helped get a better gill bite but we always had to speed back up for the crappie bite. Drifting may work depending on the spot you’re fishing and the weather for that particular day but we didn’t do any of it and in the area we were, I wouldn’t recommend it at all.

Good luck to you and be sure to share your results with us!
