Got out for a few hours, water temp in the area of the state park ranges from 48 to 54, took a few nice crappies caught alot of real small eye’s 6 to 10 inches. Had a nice chat with the wardens so dot your I’s and cross your t’s their checking.

Didn’t go out on the main lake so didn’t get a temp there.

I see you said you got to talk to the Wardens… I’ve often wondered and never heard an answer…. Walleyes are closed right now on Wissota, but lots of people are catching them ‘crappie’ fishing. How do they discern between the two? I understand if you were trolling 3 ways with 8″ stick baits, it would be obvious. But just a jig and a minnow, who’s to say?

    Thanks,

Flyboy the subject didn’t come up, but worked with wardens in the past, there interptation was based on your presentation.

I.E. if your crappie fishing with a 1/4 jig or rapala it probably would get ya a pink slip. Chipman

i know its not the same body of water but a warden and i talked last year at wappogasset and in conversation he said they cant do anything unless your keeping them (eyes out of season)….one of my best crappie experiences was using a 4″ rap. but i agree trolling 3ways would be a definite red flag for suspision. i fished little wissota 1 time last year didnt have much luck, any tips, without giving up any secrets?

    Thor,

We have a fishing league every Thursday on Wissota, and I can tell you if you were walleye fishing the small lake last year, you probably didn’t do very well. We had about 15 people on the lake, and 10 walleyes in a night (total) was not uncommon. We aren’t sure why, must have been a poor year class from 4 or 5 years ago. Hope this year will be much better!?!? Sorry, I dont have any hot tip for you, or I would be more than happy to share.

    Thanks,

fished north shore sharp drop to deep water 14to 16ft of water

all fish taken near bottom. They took minnows but stomach’s were full of some type of insect larve waxies would probably work, but didn’t have any with.

I’m assuming I was fishing near spawning area but am new to the lake so can’t say for sure.
