NOt suckers, but Channel cats in my experience are suckers for fresh lively creek chubs. My biggest channel ever, all 32″ of her came on a very large very lively creek chub. I would love to post a pic but it was taken on film instead of digital. If I had a good scanner I would post it that way but I don’t so if you want to see the pic ask me next time you see me it’s always in my truck.

Do you catch your creek chubs. I don’t think I have seen a bait store carry them around here, but I know Jerry’s in Mora always has’em and they out fish suckers for Pike too.

If you ever get towards the Hudson area, I’ll scan that bad boy for you!

Jimmy’s bait had creek chubs early this year…I think I bought most of them myself…

Hey Bob or Meg? Does your supplier ever get them???

Ps…I don’t know where I read it but I recall seeing someplace that the RR cat’s are averaging 18#’s

I’ve started catching creek chubs this year. Last night was the first night that I’ve seen any results from them. I must say that They worked great on the channels.

We boated 3 channels 2 were over 7lbs. and 2-3 other fish were missed.

    THe Cats loved them.

    We catch our own.

    thanks

Do you fish with bait and a bobber just under the surface in creeks? That’s what I read earlier this year on how to catch them. I have never caught one before. What kind of bait?

I’ve caught one mooneye in my life. The water was really high down at Hidden Falls last year and the creek that flows in was over it’s banks. I was casting an inline spinner at caught ont that was barely longer than the Mepp’s!

I suppose a bobber would work. I fish for them the same way I fish bullies. Ultra light rod. 10lb spider wire. I prefer small hook, small shot and bait. Basically anything, I use grubs or small crawler chunk.
Chubs are aggressive If its sitting at all move around.
    Good Luck

I’m going to move thread to the WI General Forum…then the Iowa General Forum to see if we can get some more responses from those two states…and not just from cat guys.

Brian, I personally see no reason to have anymore special regulations. I feel the more special regulations you have the more people will leave the sport because it gets too complicated. The trout fishing regs in Wisconsin drove people away from trout and too complicated regulations for catfish will probaly do the same for them too. Unless they have studies where fishing pressure had depleted the catfish population I see no reason to change. I’m a big believer in K.I.S.S.
