my wife wants to return to door county area for 15th anniversary this fall and i figure might as well make a fishing trip out of it. have heard there is a good smallie bite in the fall in the shipping canals. anyone have any experience up in that neck of the woods. also looking for lodging if anyone knows of any. thanks.

I recommend staying at Sand Bay Beach Resort. It is about 7 miles outside of Sturgeon Bay right on Sand Bay. Dale Strochein, a past PWT angler, owns and runs this resort. He can put you on some good smallies at this time of year, along with some walleyes too.

Another nice place to stay is the Snug harbor Inn, on the canal, near the main bridge….Jon and Patti are the owners. Good docking facility. A variety of rooms, and priced right for the off-season;.
