Got to fish beautiful Pine Lake yesterday. A note about Pine lake. If you get tired of fishing you can cruise the lake and admire the mansions that most of us will never afford.

The plan was to meet up with Z-man for a lesson on dragging suckers for a mixed bag of goodies but those plans fell through. So as my wife said “you sound like a little kid who was promised a treat and was let down, so why don’t you go anyway”. Gotta love the woman . So I used the half vacation day, ran home to get the boat and took off. On the water by 1 pm.

Now the forecast was 5 to 10 mph wind. LIAR!!! Whitecaps. After driving around to check the week growth and find the structure I was looking I for set up.

Started with a sucker over the side and a jig and minnow also at a 12 foot break to deep water that had coontail weed growing in 8 to 10 feet at the shallow side. Casting a berkly soft jerk bait over weeds. POW!! Nice hit and slice, gone. No bait, darn northern .

Cast jig and minnow. POW! slice. Darn northern. Needless to say the snake northern were moving around.

Moved to another break where 8 to 10 feet graded to 12 feet then plummets to 40+. Nice sand break with gravel in shallow. One nothern. 20 inches.

Explored a couple bays where the water temp was 58 to 60. degrees (there lake ranged from 55 to 56). Worked jig and minnow and slow jerkbait at breaks and weed edges. Got one smallie that just exploded on the bait. Man you gotta love that fight. Not very big but I swore it fought like a 10 pound channel cat. It would not come off the bottom. Pic included.

Decided since the fish are scattered probably due to all the cold rain. I put the boards on and trolled from 6 to 830 pm. Caught about 12 more northens biggest 24 inches and a 15.5 inch walleye. All caught over weeks in 7 to 10 feet of water. No lure preference. Shad raps, thundersticks, husky jerks all produced.

Overall nice time out. Got rained on once.

Thanks folks for all the chatter on how to use board. I put tattle flags on and they are fun to watch when a fish hits. Not to mention they help a bunch when the lure is fouled. Spend more time trolling clean lures this way.

You’re right about enjoying the lake, even when the fishing is slow.
when I stopped at the launch mid-afternoon, there were only 5 or so trailers parked, so looks like you about had it to yourself. That’s rare on this lake, even on weekdays.

Managed to break away from the routine yesterday, and hit Pine for the afternoon. Great day to be out, and only a handful of boats on the enitre lake. Pretty much dragged suckers in 15 to 30 fow the whole time, and got a mixed bag of 2 bass, 2 pike, a 17 inch eye,a few lost fish and couple bite-offs. No definite pattern, as fish hit in various depths.
