Just wondering if anyone can recommend a decent lake for Walleyes or Northerns with a chance for decent crappies or Gills between Superior and Ashland. Prefferably within 5 miles or so of Hwy 2. No specifics, just a name, I’ll find the fish….
My new residence is South Range and I will be needing a “go to” place close by to take the wife and kids.
There is a guide out of the Ashland area that is a former IDA Staffer named Chris Beeksma.( get bit guide service He is a very good fisherman and may help you out. You are a little out of my range…2 hours…but my neighbor was born in South Range…I been dere!

Here are directions to the Hart Lake Chain. Never fished it, but I hear it can be very good for what you looking for. Go down Hwy. 27 toward Hayward and check out the Eau Claire Lake chain. Want more, let me know.

I enjoyed the last post. Trempeleau is bit farther south than I think he is looking for. The rivers dumping into Superior can be fantastic for steelies at certain times. There is a little lake south of superior off A called Amnicon lake. it has tons of panfish and also a good numbers lake for non trophy muskies.
Whiskey pointed out the flaw in my prior post. However when you open the map and put your cursor on the start area, it will bring the map into more detail in the Iron River area. The Hart Lake Chain is just SE of Iron River. I have heard from friends that have fished it during the ice season, that it is a pretty good spot.
