I didn’t see a picture Rootski…but that IS a big fish for a fly rod…even more so when you have bass gear/tippits on. Must of hooked him in the corner of the mouth.

It’s an awesome feeling when you see someone do well that you’ve had a hand in teaching. This year I’ve come to realize why school teachers are school teachers…sure ain’t for the pay!

Way to go Bob, but even more important…WAY TO GO ROOTSKI!

Nice fish, after a 1/2 hour battle on a fly rod I have to believe that fish was very stressed, with the warm water temps and the about of lactic acid that would build up after the fight, I sure hope that fish made it.

    Bob,

This lake is deap and clear, so the water temps were cooler than in some other area lakes. That had to help. On the hand 1/2 hour is a long time to fight a fish. After they got the fish to the boat and into the net, they lifted it out for a quick picture and then immediately put her back in the water. The measurements were made with the fish in the water. Bob tells me that at no time did the Musky go “belly up”, she was able to maintain her posture throughout the whole fight and release. I took that to be a good sign as I’ve had some muskies that couldn’t hold themselves upright after a fight and those were the ones that worried me the most. This fish stayed upright and swam away briskly so there’s an excellent chance she survived OK.

Thanks for bringing this up! Big Muskies are fragile and have to be handled carefully.

By the sounds of it that fish was going to be ok, it just concerns me when a fish is played out that long(not that they had a choice on a fly rod). I bet that was one heck of a fight on a fly rod
