I have not posted here before however I have found some difficulty over the past 3 weeks catching walleyes here in northern WI. I’m tempted to start hitting the rivers again but thought I would first ask if any of you have been having any luck on the area (Siren, Webster) lakes. I have been concentrating mainly on weedy breaks using a variety of tactics. It has been slow to say the least. Any thoughts?

Welcome to IDA Marbles,
I’m not sure about Siren or Webster but on the Eau Claire chain we always do good with slip bobbers, leeches and minnows on the weed edges that lead into deep water. This year I am going to try trolling deep points when I can get back up there.July 8, 2005 at 1:47 pm #371951Welcome to the site Marbles!
Stick around, someone will chime in! It has been awhile since I fished that area for eyes. I hope that you figuire them out.

We set up on a long sand bar with cabbage on one end that tapered to sand grass then to clean sand bottom. We picked up a nice assortment of eyes and jumbo perch, either on a slip bobber/leech combo just off the bottom, or dead-sticking a jig/leech on the bottom.
The key for me this day was to find a spot where I could pick up sporadic fish during off-peak hours, then focus all my effort on that spot during prime time. Persistence pays!
July 8, 2005 at 8:19 pm #372024Thanks to those who have responded thus far. As the work day is closing, my enthusiasm go head back out to chase the eye’s is back on the rise.
LCO may be in the cards for the future. I have not yet fished it. Also, some have said Big Mackenzie is worth some time.
I’ll continue to be on the lookout for info related to these smaller northern lakes as that is what I have been fishing most often lately. Tight Lines this weekend!

Despite the videos and all that stuff about catching Walleye, unless you want to row troll at night forget the Walleyes. Depending on the lake our best bets have been Large Mouth Bass, Northern, albeit no giants, and Musky.
Maybe once every 4-5 years the Walleye bite would be OK, but for the most part we fish for other species during the summer.

I have caught walleyes night summer fishing as big as 24″ in two feet of water. Also you should recieve bonus LM/SM bass that are B-I-G. We have done very good in the Rice lake area with this technique. Lousy fishing for walters during the day/ hot bite at night, and let me tell you when they hit these cranks the plow into them like a K- grub on the mississppi on the hot fall bite. Some nights are better than others, try moon phase fishing and stable weather to increase your odds….Good luck
August 19, 2005 at 2:02 pm #379244I have not had the best of luck with the night bite (mainly trolling) on the lakes that I have been fishing. I have been puzzled by that as the lakes I fish are clear and not all that large. Anyway, casting rapalas in the shallows and on top of the weedy humps may be on the agenda this weekend depending on where I fish. I have not been on many waters in the Rice Lake area however I have fished Long in the past and connected with a couple of eye’s with live bait presentations.
I am happy to read that others consider this northern WI area as a difficult area to boat my favorite species of fish. It makes every one I bring to the boat feel like that much more of an accomplishment. If I ever find some consistency in my catch, I’ll pass along whatever info I can as there are some fun lakes to fish in this area which may be a nice change from the river for some of the anglers out there.
