Any body here ever fish the red cedar river near menominee? What kind of fish populations does it hold? Anything note worthy size or numbers? Just asking as I am going to be in menominee this fall. Thanks

Hey Swimwizz, All kinds of spots to fish around here. When are you planning on arriving?? Are you a shore fisherman or boater. What size boat do you run if its the later, You’ll need a flat bottom or canoe for floating the river or a smaller rig can get you on the water off of the 29 launch. You just can’t go far. I fish Menomin alot in the fall or spring and fish a lot on the Chippewa. I don’t know Tainter
but plan on fishing it a little. These waters are too green for me right now with the exception of the Chippewa. It has some good fishing. Let me know when you’ll be arriving and I’ll give you a tour. You’ll have to check out Eau Galle also. We’ll have to get together. Steve

Hey, leinieman you ever chase big toothy critters on the Chippewea River. What about cats. I am coming in Sept. to go to school at Stout. I have a place to store my jon boat so that is coming along. I’m up for heading out sometime. Tony

I’m alway up for the Chippewa. There are huge catfish in there as well as toothy ones. I think a large toothy tried to eat a paddlefish that I caught once. The paddle was gone and the fish had teeth marks across its face and was still bleeding. I think the muskie tried to grab the sheepie I was using for bait and the paddlefish got in the way. Paddlefish look like sharks without that paddle I’m not far from the river either one for that matter. Do you trailer your rig or just toss it in a pickup or on a roof rack? Both the Chippewa and the Red Cedar will eat your lower end and trash your prop in a hurry so floating downstream works great especially if you use a pickup vehicle downstream.Or is it possible you run a jet motor Let me know when you arrive and we’ll arrange a float? Do you also hunt? Steve

Nope no jet drive- I wish. I trailer it at 16ft(and very wide) it is too big for the bed of my truck. Still only draws 3-4″ of water and have ran the outboard through some hairy areas in the mississippi backwaters but it can be slow going with the motor tilted half way up. If the rivers are really that bad maybe I should bring our duck skiff instead- 14″ long sits a couple inches out of the water and stable as can be that can be tossed in the truck. Yep I hunt and am definitely up for a float, for any fish, but especially cats and skis-(muskies that is not jetskis although they fight pretty good too). Tony

The main problem I had was after launching going downstream and not being able to run motor through the shallows to get back. How far are you coming from? I’ve had problems of hitting bottom with a 7.5 horspower on a 12 foot flatbottom. I’m currently watching for a jet powered tunnel hull that’s what I really need. I’ve seen a several flat bottoms on the river with even 40 hp motors but there always fishing floating downstream or running there motors in only the deeper areas. Crazy D Tackle (Ron) is a guide for on the Chippewa. He also has more muskie tackle than I’ve ever seen in one place. You’ll have to check out his shop. He speciallizes in bucktail spinners. He grew up on the chippewa. Give him a shout if you do a search on crazydtackle on ftr youll find a link to his site. Both him and his wife are very nice folks and he can let you know which boat wiould be best.Let me know when your coming and from where and we’ll get out together. If you have problems reaching Ron let me know. Steve Ps let hi know you saw his name on ftr of EFN. He donated lures for the gettogether as prizes. Steve
