Looking to get on the Apple this weekend………………..anyone have any tips or advice for good pike/muskie action? Closer to Amery? Somerset area? Favored lures? I’ll take what I can get. If I don’t get anything here, I’ll post anything I can contribute for results.

the closer you get to somerset, the higher the chance of catching some young drunk tubers…
June 2, 2002 at 3:26 am #243905Ahhhh…….it’s a VISUAL thing! That must mean that you must have been able to see better and when I think of that, I see someone must have pointed out the benefits of sitting on TOP of the tube vs. hanging on from underneath it! Boy, that WOULD make SOME DIFFERENCE wouldn’t it?! It’s a good thing someone pointed that out to you! Took me 3 trips down the river before I realized the CORRECT way to run the river!
Ever thought about what it would’ve been like had you not been shown proper technique? Let me tell ya! You’d see the rocks coming but you couldn’t avoid hitting them. You’d see who is and who isn’t ADDING to the current! Who is seated a bit too deep in the tube………….looks like you’re getting your pipes or refrigerator fixed! Who all THINK they’re not wearing a thong!!!
While that kind of knowledge can be fun, there ARE some things you just don’t want to know! Right? : )
Y’all have fun and be good eh!!!

Mike T here, hudson native and croix junkie myself. I’m wondering if you got a chance to get up to the apple? I’ve been a number of times with good success and would be interested to hear how it was. I’m one of the fellas you see on the croix 3-4 days a week, never posted here much before.

We could certainly use your input! I don’t get out on the waters nearly as much as I’d prefer to but I’ve got a passion for the Croix………….just something magical about it.
I didn’t get on the Apple because a friend got a hold of me early that morning and changed up my plans some. Figured I’d get out later that weekend but I couldn’t hook up for a truck and boat…………….a situation I’m currently struggling with, or I’d probably be out more than I have been this year. Still got lots of time left though. I won’t have another rock solid chance to get on it until July but I’ll get on it yet………….I MUST!
Thanks for posting and I hope we get to hear from you more in the days/weeks/months ahead!
June 7, 2002 at 7:55 pm #244098Well, the challenge continues………….I DID get on the Apple last night and got to watch some distant lightning, hear small doses of rolling thunder. I wanted to keep an eye on the situation because I was working the river in my 10′ inflatable Seahawk, no troller. I was working for muskies in a very general manner because I have no info on the water, no electronic assistance, no motor to ease control issues, and you can’t exactly figure-8 very well in this configurement either. Working on improving that situation but until then, I have to take what I can get. I ended up with a skunk for results but I DID find fish……..just couldn’t get ’em interested in my offerings. The fish (no matter the fish!) were working tight to shore or VERY shallow water, calmer areas. Biggest sighting was either a pike or muskie that looked to go 28-30″. Real dark back. I’ll keep trying different things and different days…………we’ll dial in something useable yet! One other note, 4 other boats on the river last night but no space issues……….nice bonus! Tonight? I’m thinking bullheads in a bucket and heading for a Croix night weekend………just gotta catch some “heads”.
June 8, 2002 at 1:49 am #244113wow… that would have been cute to see…. the PUP going for a “nantucket sleigh ride”… with a big musky providing the power!… a 10′ boat… no motor.. fishing for ski’s.. hmmmmmm… they were probably all looking at YOU thinking.. ya know… if I get a good run at this thing I just might choke it down!!…….
