Just a short report on Big Round. My brother and I spent Thursday searching for big bluegills. The water is very green with the algae bloom, however, the fish were there but you had to work for them.
We did have to try several presentations to find the right combination. What worked the best was a small, 1/16th oz. white jig, white hair, tipped with a medium leech. Drifting didn’t work very well, so a quick scan with the locator putting us on the breaklines in 9-14 ft. with both anchors down proved the best. With the wind we had today, it took both of them to do the job.
We ended the day with 16 gills total (most were 7-8″ long), plus a nice slab crappie and a 17″ walleye to boot.
One thing I have to add is, you know it when a big gill takes your bait as they just about yank the rod out of your hand!
It was a great day to spend on the water with my brother. I’m looking forward to the fall crappie run.
Good fishing!!
