I am planning on some sturgeon fishing this year but don’t really plan on registering for a contest. I think probably just catch an release for me even though I know they are relly good eating. The larger sturgeon have lived a lot of years probably 50 or more to get to the size they are and if I get one I think maybe someone else would also like to catch it too and besides I have a couple of Salmon in the freezer for now. Where are you planning on fishing at Joe? Steve

Yeah I love catching Sturgeon too. A couple facts on them:
    *Start spawning at age 25
*Only spawn every 5 years after age 25
So yeah, catch and realease them folks.

Steve, Im bassin the Yellow River and probly gonna pike and/or bass the Chip below Jim Falls Dam. I gotta work that day, so it ruins some of it

Boys, I have seen some of the sturgeon in Jim Falls. There are easily fish in there at 80 to >100 pounds! It is an outstanding one day event. You need to be fit and have heavy equipment.

No Joe, I am not, haven’t been up there in a few years but my nephew goes cattin every spring for them big, dark channel cat below the dam. I poked a sturgeon with the end of my pole, that looked to me to be six foot long and he didn’t even flinch.

We did not do so good. Everyone got the usual tiny smallies and I rounded up a small Pike. My friend got a Walleye that was just shy of 18”, and was in the 14-18” slot limit. So we let her go. The fish on Saturday night on display were a 64” Sturgeon, Some 3lb Smallies, a couple of Walleyes in the 20” range and a 2lb Flathead.

Wow, I thougtht with the low river levels people would have caught more fish. I know down here where we don’t have dams the fish are in the deep hole and are feeding like no tomorrow.

Ha, it is nice when the fish are in holes. There are lots there. I caught a bass, northern and walleye in a little hole on a part of the Yellow one day.
