Good panfish bite

Hey guys,

I revisited a lake up north yesterday and found an incredible panfish bite! Size was so-so but they were on a tear so if you guys have notion to get the kiddies out this weekend, I predict the frenzy to continue. Nothing more than a green/chartreuse 1/64 to 1/16 oz. jig with a small chunk of GULP earthworm threaded onto the hook was used for this tremendous action! Weed pockets, outside weedlines, drifting or trolling, and a bobber would be excellent as well. Goofy thing, I had crappies biting 2 to 1 over the bluegills. That’s a first! Anyway, water temps are warm and the panfish are active!

Oh yeah…… found one gill that hadn’t spawned yet….. not good!

Are you sure those were eggs in there? Down on pool 9 the gills were fat as all heck, but it was the mayflies that were distending their stomachs!

I tried for panfish last night and didn’t do so well. I did good on bass. I’ll have to see if I can get out on the lakes more this early next week. Where were you fishing at if you don’t mind me asking?

Ummm…….. Pool 9 is a Looooooong way south from where I was and I’m pretty certain the fish are in differing ecological systems. This will create differences in our observations. Ummm………. yeah, pretty sure the thousands of little yellow sauced balls located in the lower front belly area were eggs. I didn’t look in the stomach to see what she was eating, though I’m certain it included my “Little Nipper’s” hook!

Thanks for the info on the panfish area. I’ll keep the secred guarded. I won’t be able to make it up there any time soon. Oh well…..I was talking with some guys from up north the other day. They have been saying there are a lot of fish that didn’t spawn until late because of the cold temps we had. That really stinks!!! Well see ya at the get together.
