Was wondering if anyone could help me out. It will be my first time fishing thr minocqua area on the 10th of july. I am planning on staying on minocqua lake and want to fish for walleye, perch, crappie, and some gills. If anyone could help with some techniques and places to try on these lakes.

Where are you going to be staying at? Let me know and if you can get a Hotspots Map of the Minocqua/Kawaguesaga lakes. If after that you would like to try Tomahawk get that map and let’s get together and talk when you get here (If you would like to prep, we can talk by phone or pm before you get here). I spend most of this time of the year fishing for muskies, no need for bait. But having spent time on the river, I am switching to plastics for walleyes and might be interested in spending a night with you fishing. Only have to deal with my jealous fishing partner with which we never get to spend much time in the boat together. Are you bringing your boat? I am sure that you have family coming with you. Let me know some more info. I will also caution you that this is not a good time for me to get away from work other than later in the evening. By the way that fish I am holding is from Tom.

July 5, 2004 at 6:19 pm #311250Yes I am coming up with my wife of one year. We were up there last year and just relaxed this year I am wanting to get her into some walleyeon the lakes. Its hard on the river one day i get my limit the next i don’t get a bite. I have the chip that goes in my lowrance and it covers the whole chain of minocqua. Last year i stopped at Kurts Bait shop and he told me alot of walleye in tomahawk are caught on jig heads and a tube jig. thats what i use here alot of the time. We are staying at coachlite resort. Walleye is my main focus but you know i have never caught a muskie. i like to fish early mornings and evenings because it seems like everyone is of the lake by 6 pm. I was also wondering in Canada last year all we used were spinning rigs tipped with a minnow. Why wouldn’t that work on tomahawk. Talk later

Just to let you know, I am the GM at the Minocqua CC just across the lake from you. Can you bring up your map before you come or might that be a little difficult? That way I could start to help you put together a plan. Otherwise we can just get together when you arrive. Kurt or one of his guides, by the way, would be an excellent guide to hire for one of the first days.

If you could get a good drift going with the spinner rigs, they might be effective. Otherwise trolling is not allowed on these lakes, which would in my opinion would be the best use of spinner rigs. Would be happy to learn any techniques beyond my thoughts!!!

July 5, 2004 at 9:21 pm #311266Well in regards to no trolling. You cannot troll with an electric motor or a gas motor or either. that is the only way i usually fish for walleye around here. So you can’t troll jigging or you just gotta use the wind. or anchor. I live about 6 hours away so i probably won’t be up before the weekend. Is there any other regulations that might be different than illinois. Thanks for all your help. I hate to keep bothering you. Thanks again

I hadn’t heard from you just wondering if we still might meet up some night and if there is anything else i should know about the lake. Like trolling , etc………
Sorry for the bother
