Long Lake (Rice Lake Area)

    Well,

    Josh and I will be fishing Long lake this weekend… I am here today and found the bite very tough to say the least !!!

    If I had to fish with the squeeler as my main means of transportation… 2 foot drifts would hold me to a very limited area… I had a very good friend loan me his two Polaris Indy 600’s… these sleds are some serious means of transportation.. I can go any where with ease !!!

    A few crappies came to the hole today.. it is so nice to have the LX-6 to locate these suspended crappies.. If only I could catch some bigger then 9″.. what I wouldn’t give for some of them Class County Crappies now !!!

    Josh and I will try and put some fish on the ice tomorrow and post up some pix…

    I’ll be a few miles away but sledding instead of fishing. Might buzz the lake!

    WOW !~!!

    I ran nearly a tank of gas thru my Honda Strikemaster… that’s a ton of holes !!!

    We stunk up the place pretty bad today….

    If any of you are locals or have some good in-tel for us it would be greatly appreciated !!!

    Is that the Long Lake NE of Haugen??? If it is, then the best spot I know of is the far west side???

    That’s the one !!!

    We had a great time on Long and I think Mama and I will return this summer for some walleye action !!!

    Josh had big fish honors with one that was just a toad !! At just under 14″.. she was fat fat fat !!!

    Again the Strikemaster 4 stroke preforms flawlessly !! Now the Solo did drill the holes just a bit faster.. but the gas ratio was almost 2-1 i think.. Josh ran the Solo and I ran the Honda.. both were fantastic !!!

    This is my first year with the Otter Insulated Cabin.. The temps were at or just above0 deg at 7 or so in the morning and when we piled our holes we set up the otters and then just moved the houses with the Polaris sleds from spot to spot… I didn’t even need the heater as my body heat would keep the inside tolerable…

    Best crappie baits for us were the 1/16oz and 1/8oz slender spoons as well as the tungsten jigs.. when hole hopping out side and the ice was skimming the hole… it helped to get down thru the slush faster and get down to the schooled up fish !!

    Two weeks and Josh and I will finish up our ten weeks and five new lakes, ending up with Wapogasset..

    When I was at Stout, I had friends that made it up there. Panfish-wise, it seemed to be really the best location on the lake… Now, walleyes, that’s a lake I have always wanted to fish!!!

    Mama and I will be there this summer to check out the action.. Looking forward to that trip !!!

    but then again.. I’m looking forward to all my fishing trips
