Anyone fish Deer Lake just East of St. Croix Falls in May for Bass and Bone just above it?

I’ve been on Deer just once and have never been on Bone. I will be fishing Deer the second weekend of May and will be hitting Bone a few times after that to the end of May.

    Any info would be appreciated.

Fished Bone a few times last year and were always able to find fish. Did well just drifting a texas rigged worm over points, or fishing topwater poppers or frogs over the top of the slop on really warm days. The lake produced very nice bass for me everytime I was on it last year.

I’ve caught some huge bass on both while fishing for muskies. Bone has been better for me when actually targeting bass. Last I knew it had special regs for bass.

Fished Bone a couple times last year. Had really good luck with cranks off of points and along weedbeds… Even hooked a few small muskies.

    Hi guys,

I’m new to this forum, but have been fishing in Western WI from LaCrosse up to Superior for several years. So far I like what I see.

In my experience it has been very common to catch some nice sized bass while fishing Bone for Musky.

I live very close to both lakes, bass are definately underfished, as they get tons of muskie pressure especailyy on weekends, i limit my time to during the week,
anyway, deer lake has loads of small bass, 8-10″ fish, I have had a few 100 fish days on these little guys, it’s fun,
Bone has better quality, and provides for funner fishing with the size and available structure

My take now that I have fished them

Deer-If you want to catch little bass and muskies than this is a good lake. It does have some big bass to but you only would want to fish it in the spring under ideal conditions other wise you are going to really have to work for them and even for that you may have nothing to show.

Bone- I don’t mean to brag I don’t mean to boast but DA Bone has been berry berry good to me. Now don’t get me wrong this lake can be tough to, but I won the fishing tourny I had on the lake with 13lb-14oz plus Big Bass and that was under tough conditions that dropped the weights significantly from the same tournament last year. Bone Lake is not a great bass lake but it is pretty good and my guess is that it really doesn’t hit it’s stide until the pre-summer peak.

Where and with what type of presentations to you catch bass on Bone Lake? I have been out there once this year fishing for a few crappie and it seems like a tough lake to fish because there is very little visible structure and the lake is so clear. Any info would be appreaciated. Thanks

Are there any good resorts on Bone? My family has been looking for somewhere to go this summer.

We would like a pretty nice cabin or room, as opposed to camping.

The key for me last weekend was warmer water that had a bit of a stain to it. As the spring progresses into summer there are lots of promising weedbeds and stucture. In addition to that, I would be willing to bet that Bone is an outstanding bass on docks lake. This lake has a little bit of everything.

In a summer tourny I would probably try to find a deep pattern, a good run of docks, and a slop pattern.
