Looking to rent a place the end of June. Looking for a affordable family place( for 4) with good fishing for Panfish or walleyes.

Does anyone have a recomendation. Like to stay within a couple hours of Hudson, WI.

I have spent lots of time all over the state of MN. Now that we’re Hudson residents, it’s time to start exploring WI. Never fished any lakes in WI, so all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

One of the best lakes within that area is Balsam Lake. Its about 45 minutes north of Hudson. There are a LOT of cabins and resorts to stay at (Ward’s is the best known…) but the lake can get kind of busy on the weekends with recreational boatersand such. But fishing is excellent for panfish, bass, and pike. Walleyes can be tough but if you put in the time they can be a blast.

Another amazing group of lakes is the Eau Claire Chain of Lakes in Bayfield County. Absolutely amazing fishery, but its about three hours from Hudson. Not sure how far your limits are but there are a lot of resorts around that lake. Everytime I go there we stay at a primitive campsite.

If you have any questions, let me know

If you want a real resort experience, make the run up to Hayward. It’s about a 2.5 hour drive. I can’t say enough good things about Treelands Resorts on the Chippewa Flowage. Walleye fishing is just OK, but you should be able to find a few by throwing husky jerks on weed edges at dusk. Smallmouth fishing should be good at that time, too. And you’ve always got the muskie fishing.

Treelands isn’t the cheapest place out there, but it’s not the most expensive either. If they have any space available, you wouldn’t go wrong booking them. Other good resorts on the Flowage are Deerfoot Resort (new owners this year are getting good reviews) and Tiger Musky Resort.

I know the owners of Wards resort on Balsam on they are a great family, good people. I’ve never been to the resort or fished the lake before but have wanted to.
The Eau Claire lakes have very good panfish, walleye, and musky fishing. Just stay away from Buck n bass resort and Boulder lodge is now closed.

I’ve owned a cabin outside of Danbury in that neighborhood for a long time so I’m not really up on the resorts so much. The beauty of that area is the smaller less traveled lakes, and the Nemakagon and St Croix rivers. Hayward is awesome. I’d fish Lac Courte Oreilles if walleyes are your bag. the Chippewa Flowage has first come first serve camping on many islands. You can get lost back in there it is gigantic. We fished this lake called Bear Track lake just a puddle really off the St Croix Trail and limited out on big bull gills in a couple hours. the St Croix and Nemakagon rivers are canoeable and have many campsites available. Top water fishing can be incredible for bass and pike.

I have been so curious about Lac Courte Oreilles for years but its in a reservation so I just dont know. Otherwise it has the size to be a nice walleye lake.

Suziki – there can be good fishing for suspended eyes on LCO. It’s a very nice lake for sure. It gets speared, which sucks, but so do a lot of lakes.

My cabin is not far from there. I have got to get over there some day. That and Shell. Oh and Long.

Right in your backyard. I know it’s more fun to get out of town and explore other options. When you get back home spend some time getting to know the St Croix and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Leave weekends to the pleasure boaters.
While in Hayward, for panfish try Nelson Lake, Smith lake and Whitefish. Excellent Walleye action on Long Lake east of Sarona. That’ll get you started. Welcome to Wisconsin.
