well just got back from our cabin and fished 6 days all over oneida county. we fished 6 different lakes mostly going for crappies and panfish but spent a couple days at a favorite pike lake.we arrived monday the 26 and were able to sneak away for a couple hours to are favortie backwoods crappie lake. ended up catching around 50 crappies between my dad and i keeping 15 of them. all were caught on glow diamond jigs or pink/glow demon jigging spoons with spikes.

tuesday was spent on a pike lake chasing flags and jigging for perch. well it was windy as heck and somebody had to stay in the shack at all times. ended up with around 30 flags with a lot of snake pike coming top side and i iced a nice chunky 28 incher. the perch werent as coporative but we managed 12 keepers on minnow or ratfinkees and spikes.

Wednesday was spent checking out a new crappie lake. we found a few crappies in a small slough in about 20 fow. caught a lot of small crappies but we did manage 12 9-10 inchers. most were caught on glow diamond jigs or small slender spoons with spikes. i found later in the afternoon the crappies really turned on to the blue/silver slender spoon and spikes, they were really crushing the spoon.

thursday we checked out a new lake that didnt pan out as we hoped only small panfish. so headed to school house bay on lake minocqua which is a community spot that holds a lot of crappies. i put 2 tip downs out and jigged plastic with another rod. the tip downs were what the crappies wanted as i landed 3 13 inch slabs before they shut down and i was also able to catch some nice gills on plastic and slender spoons again.

friday was spent back on the pike lake for our family outing. we had a lot of action having at least another 30 flags with most being small snake pike again but my sister was able to land a nice 30 incher at the end of the day. i headed back to schoolhouse bay for more crappie action. i ended up getting 5 crappies on purple plastic and a 17 inch walleye on tip downs, the crappies were not interested in the tip downs that night as we didnt catch any crappies on tip downs.

saturday was spent on lake thompson trying to find some more crappies. we found the crappies on 2 different cribs using tungsten jigs and spikes but the only problem was they were all 6-8 inch crappies. i have never caught so many aggresive crappies as you would drop your jig down and they would race up and eat it.

well it was a great trip again as it usually is. time just goes way to fast and it seems like we can never get enough time up north.

o yeah i forgot to add we had anywhere from 8″ to 12″ of ice. plenty for 4 wheelers and snowmobiles but we did see a lot of vehicles on the ice.

Great report and am glad to see people up north utilizing the great resources of the area!!! To me truck travel is just not something that is going to happen real fast apparently this year. Hearing reports of good ice, just not real thick ice. Fishing has sporadic as well, some places and days and times good, others not so much… It seems that the community holes are doing pretty well as I have been hearing better reports from those places as opposed to others…

Man, that’s like twisting my arm. Been itching to get up to the cabins near Boulder Junction for a few day. Reallyu got me thinking about it. We’re still waiting on ice here on my honey holes….so I’m still dropping the boat in. Nice report!

I’d agree with that Mark. I’ve been spending a lot of time avoiding the community holes and scouting out on my own away from the crowds-with VERY mixed results. I’ve spent way too much time scratching my head trying to find fish and getting frustrated. Been finding great ice though! I haven’t drilled through less than 11″ of measured ice in over a week…this on 400 acres or less lakes, for the most part.
    Tight lines everybody!
