Anybody been out on Cedar? I’ve caught plenty of crappies out there, but I’m looking for a little info on the walleye bite.

Is there a public access point on the South side of the lake or? I’ve been wanting to try the south end for some time. Any general info on where the cribs are other than all over the place?
December 29, 2011 at 4:15 am #1022239The cribs are public record and are all on gps coordinates. I think they are on the hot spots map. The shack piles are where the cribs are….definitely not secrets. I’m yet to catch a walleye on the cribs though. Just bluegills and crappies.
There is an access point on the southwest side. Get there early unless you want to park on the road. 30-40 vehicles there today.
December 29, 2011 at 4:21 am #1022241off the point on sw side just out little bay. then around that point in the corner. just look for all the holes drilled.

Talked to my uncle x-mas eve, he lives on the south bay of Cedar- said they are catching walleyes right in front of his house in 6-8 fow on tip ups with shiners.
There are so many tip ups out there this week it’s crazy…I think the fishing has slowed down a bit with all the pressure. I’ll try some different water tomorrow. Maybe one of the humps in front of there.
December 29, 2011 at 4:41 am #1022247yeah, I agree, its like alot of people dont venture too far out.time to swing the corner.
December 29, 2011 at 5:44 am #1022254from what I saw in the time I was there noone seemed to be doing well with any species, by shore or by crib.
January 4, 2012 at 1:04 am #1024150Crappie bite on the southwest cribs has been very predictable. 45 minutes before dark and then the switch turns off. Nice fish. Glad you can only keep 10 or guys would load the bucket.
Sunfish are a dime a dozen out there. More than you can catch. The average size is roughly the palm of your hand. 1 or 2 years and you are going to have a bunch of nice fish out there.
I haven’t yet gone looking for the walleyes. I’m not exactly sure where to start or how to go about it, but I’ll give it a shot and see what I can find. Any advice would be helpfull.

whend the walleye limit for the lake switch from 3 to 2?
It probably does or will change every other year with the Native spearing declarations…

January 5, 2012 at 3:25 pm #1024804The signs at the boat launch say 2, but the printed regulations say 3.

Always go by the sign at the lake… and again, hopefully you will be able to keep three this next year.

January 5, 2012 at 9:46 pm #1024937manselmo, Im assuming the books were mass printed before the update was mandated on may 27th, as thats the date the ceceded territory walleye limit pdf says on the wi dnr website.
January 6, 2012 at 1:27 am #1025021Gotcha…Well I wish I could say that this was an issue for me, but I’m yet to catch more than 1 walleye at a time out there. I’ll have to move off the cribs and try some different areas.
January 6, 2012 at 4:49 am #1025071Now just remember, you can’t keep those Walleyes that are 14-18″… and only one over 18″
I wonder how many more regulations they can get on one species on one lake.. Maybe I shouldn’t wonder, cause I don’t think I want to know…January 6, 2012 at 11:40 am #1025097is there still a slot with the 2 eye limit? I know balsam is a 2 keeper but they just got to be over 15″.
January 6, 2012 at 2:44 pm #1025183If that is the Cedar Lake in St. Croix County, then you are not able to keep any fish between 14′-18″ as Jen stated.
Again if the Tribes are doing the same agreement as up here in the north, they were trying to take their larger quota one year and then relax it the next, so hopefully your area falls under the same guidelines, they will do that and next year will be a 3 fish bag limit.

January 6, 2012 at 9:14 pm #1025376My observations over the years were that Cedar was a “sleeper” lake within stiking distance of the cities then the secret got out. The pressure that followed changed everything. I quit going there after 4 bad trips in a row.
I could be wrong.January 12, 2012 at 11:50 am #1027166hows the fishing lately? fished alot last winter did pretty good thinking about tring Sat. thanks mike
