Looking to take the family on a long weekend the end of June. I’ve been wondering about the Chetek Chain of lakes as a possible desitination. Does anyone have any info about this area? Resorts/hotels to stay that are kid friendly? How bout some bass fishing holes or just general fishing info? I picked up a hotspots map, and the lake area is HUGE! Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Steve,
This link should help you locate some place to stay.

I live about 15 miles from the chain and fish it ALOT. Quality bass fishing, plenty of crappies and bluegills and a healthy walleye population. Let me know if you lock down a weekend and I would be happy to show you around the lake so you can spend more time fishing and less time scouting.

Just one note on this chain, it gets pretty green for kids to be swimming in, the water quality is more than a little lacking as far as swimming goes if that is important to your family, just an FYI

Try running up to Cable Wisconsin, Namakogon has a bounty of crappie and blue gills, walleye ,nothern pike as well as muskie are real popular too…I stayed at Lakewoods resort..Top Notch place

    Dave:

That is a great place to be!!! I used to spend time up there in the late 70’s and 80’s. Just a great resort and lake. We used to stay up there and ride the 40 mile Fat Tire Off Road Race!!! Then fish the next two days following the race.

Namakagen is an awesome lake, we camped at the national campground, very kid friendly and you can get a spot right on the lake and keep your boat on the site. Fishing for walleyes is excellent but your best bet is low light periods. 50″ limit on musky, pretty much anything you want, also there is a great ice cream a couple miles from the campground.
