Fished for 5 days last week. All & all, fishing was very good. Plenty of eaters along with slot fish.
We fished edges of weeds, main lake humps, and top edges of flats. Crawlers seemed a little more dominant than leeches. Headed back next Tuesday for 5 more days.
Look for bait. Where you find bait (which it is full of) you should find fish.
Never made it into cut. Didn’t have too.
If you want to get the kids just catching fish, the pearch are hard to keep off the line. Plenty of Northerns also.
    Good luck

Mike we’re also heading up to the area Friday. Staying in Grand Rapids. Were you Lindy Rigging to get your fish ? Also wondered what launch you use. I’ve never been on Winnie before so I was wondering which launch would be the best. We were definitely going to try Winnie and maybe Bowstring. Thanks for any help Glenn

    Glen,
It was my 1st time on Winnie and found boats launches to be somewhat of a challenge. There are a bunch of public landings but you can plan on traveling up to a few miles on sand roads to get to them.
I was there pre fishing and tournament fishing the MTT which went out of Dennys resort on the south end.
We used a couple different landings and found Nodaks (just west of Denny’s) was very nice.
All the resorts cahrged $10.00 so don’t be afraid to look at public launches. Believe there’s one just west of Nodaks on HWY 2.
I don’t want to share alot of info here as there’s another MTT there a week from sat & sun.
Long line with what ever method you prefer. watch for bait… that was key.
    Boards also produced.
    Good luck, be safe

I will be up this weekend staying on cut foot as well. I have been goin up for 15 or so years now for opener. Last year there was an excellent shallow walleye bight in cut foot and also the main lake. im talkin 3 to 5 fow. This year im thinkin is going to be a bit different. My plan for Saturday is to start in cut foot up shallow bouncing a jig n a minnow of the bottom. Moving out deeper until we find the fish. But i have a feeling pullin lindys out on the main lake is going to be most productive this year. Ill letcha know how we do. dont forget that cut foot offers a great pan fish bight at times as well. good luck!

I usually go up for a long weekend the second weekend of June. Last year at that time there was a good jig/minnow (shiner) bite going in 6-12 feet of water. The year before (2010) the fish were in transition from the shallow flats to the first off shore structure in 15-20 feet of water using rigs and crawlers/leeches.

So with that said; I’d plan on starting the shallow flats with a jig and minnow, but be prepaired to fish the close off shore structure.

If the shiner minnow bite is going, which I’m sure it will be, buy a five gallon bait tamer to keep your shiners in. These minnows die easily and have to have plenty of fresh water. When your boat is docked, be sure to put the bait tamer of minnows into the lake tied off to the side of your boat. When you are fishing, just toss the tamer in the livewell and keep the pump going for fresh water.

Fatheads can and will work, but the shiners purchased at the local bait shops are wild to the area and always seem to work better. Don’t skimp out and buy plenty.

    Good luck.

Jiggin rake opener was a great weekend weather n fishing wise. Saturday we caught fish right off the bat at midnight n all the way through Monday we had pretty consistent action. Monday morning was a bit tougher bite due to the dead calm n warming water temp. We started off corking from camp on sat 12:01 A.M n actually managed to catch quite a few fish right of the back of the boat nosed up on shore. We caught 25 fish from the bonfire over the three nights. Nothing better then that. Leaches n shiners both had their moments on the bober. Seemed shiners were more productive in the late evening hours otherwise leaches is where it was at. Bring lots as for the main lake bite, we also had consistent action out in front of high banks, the birches, n farther south down the shore line. Off the first break pullin either a lindy with a short three foot to five foot snell n a leach or a green jig n a leach. We were fishing the first break in 7 to 10 fow on Saturday. The key was stay away for the crowds. Mark on your gps where you caught a fish n troll back to that location often. We noticed we seemed to get fish in the same locations the entire weekend. On Sunday we were cut short on the big lake by a nasty nw wind that produced five foot rollers, with twenty n thirty foot long white caps… we fished cut foot n managed to pull some nice healthy eyes from there as well As some very nice 13 n 14 inch slabs n 10 to 11 inch jumbos. Monday we found fish off the second break in 18 to 20 fow. I believe the water temps pushed them out off the first break. If I was going there This weekend I’d go fish the second break out in front of tamarack or the birches lindy rigging with a leach or a crawler. Maybe try a spinner… Also heard some of the mid lake structure was producing late at night trolling shads. Good luck!

Im staying out of williams narrows resort on cut foot.. got up here wednesday and it has been raining pretty much the whole time until today.. fishing has been slow to say the least.. we found perch from 5-12 feet of water.. a few walleyes aaround 8-12 feet of water and some snakes around the perch areas.. shiners are the only thing we are getting bites on between all 6 of us.
