We had a great 4 days of fishing and weather. Thursday and Friday were both slow during the day for our group because of the lack of wind and bright skies. During the day we picked off active perch and a few walleyes in 15-17 feet of water. In the evening we moved in shallower and had a pretty good bite each day at sundown in 13 feet. I did troll for awhile just after the sun went down and immediately boated a 22″ walleye, but we decided to head in before dark. On Saturday we had wind and overcast skies-recipe for success on Winnie. I was marking and catching a few fish in 15 feet, but on a long drift we were blown into 8 feet and the fish were stacked up and feeding. For the rest of the day we concentrated on the 6-8 break and had a blast. My brother and I had multiple doubles and almost constant action for 4 hours. (The picture is my livewell just after the mayhem started) Sunday was similar to Thursday and Friday. We caught a few out deeper, but nothing fast and furious.
Our presentation for the weekend was a jig and a shiner. Mainly we used 1/8 oz jigs, but for awhile on Saturday we upgraded to a 1/2 oz while we were jigging in the deeper water. The best speed was around a .5 mph, but in the high winds Saturday we were still catching fish at 1 mph.
I hope the fish bite like that again in 4 weeks when we head up there for the MTT tournament.
