spring crappie action continues to heat up.
we are not having much trouble finding them, but some of them are pretty tight lipped.
the size of the fish varies from throwbacks to hogs. the biggest so far is 14 inches.
we are finding that down sizing to plain hooks in #6 with light clear line is helping persuade the finicky eaters that this presentation looks more like the real thing than the #4 glow jig.
waxies are getting their fair share of hits, (when I remember to bring the container), though they hit them pretty light. a nimble rod and a steady hand help detect the slightest movement on the rod tip and if your fortunate, there will be something on the end of the line when you set the hook!
so far the ice up nort here is in good shape. we are supposed to get a few days with rain so that could mess up the landings. we will have to wait and see how bad it gets.
we might be reduced to using the atv’s?
that’s ok. even if we have to walk, those sixty degree days standing on the ice pulling up slabs and gills are just around the corner!
be safe, fish with a buddy and let somebody know where your going and when to expect you back.
