Was up on Winnie and Cutfoot this last weekend.
Found Cutfoot to be much better than Winnie with a pretty good concentration of fish on East Sugar Bush, Bob’s Bar in Bowens bay of Cutfoot and Battle Point
Friday afternoon I fished Battle point with decent success boating 19, we jigged in 10-16 feet of water with fish coming at all the depths but 12-13 seemed to be the best.
Saturday the nice weather had the boats out in force for this time of year and my other spots weren’t going very well so I was forced to join the pack and fish Bob’s bar. Fishing Bob’s was a serious challenge of boat control and patience with the steep breaks and turns and with the number of inconsiderate fishermen that were there I am suprised we didn’t have a boat rage incident. I was personally cutoff over 6 times where I had to do a 90 degree turn and crank up the trolling motor to avoid hitting someone that turned right in front of me. At one point I was chatting with a guy I know, we were bow to bow about 15 feet apart and a guy had the nerve to back troll right between us and laugh about it.
Even so the fish were there so it made it worth while, most of the fish we got were in the 17″-26″ slot that needs to be released but we had a lot of fun catching them, we boated 30 and kept a few for a great meal of fresh fish that night. The fish were in the 9-11 foot range and from what I could see from everyone else that was jigging the color of the jig didn’t matter much, everyone was catching fish.
Sun I refused to join the zoo on Bob’s again and went back to Battle point and found the fish to be cooperating nicely again this time in the 9.5-11 foot range once again jigging with chubs and shiners. We only fished until 1 and boated 19 fish once again the majority were over 17″ and released.
I am hoping to make it up there again this fall, if I do I will make sure to post another report.
Good luck and be safe.
