First off I forgot the camera . Second I am a few days late. 5/14-5/19
We had our annual 2nd week end fishing trip. I have been lucky enough to have been envited up with friends for the last 6 years. We fished wed. thru sun. with great success.
We started off wed. in cutfoot as we heard the opener was good. We quickly found out there was no reason to venture out to the big lake. Jig and a shinner was the presentation. Really didnt seem to be a favorite color as long as it was out there you could get bit. Thurs. brought more of the same with more friends ariving with another boat, fishing was purty good. That evening one of our crew threw out the lighed bobber. the last several years bobber fishing at night has not been good. This year it started off good and then slowly fell from 10 – 15 fish while sitting around the campfire to 1 or 2. It did produce our biggest fish of the trip 27″.
Fri. brought the weather and wind. Having scattered showers and wind we noticed a slow down in cut foot. With a good wind for the north shore off to the big lake we went. Drifting from 9 to 16 ft. of water there were fish scattered from the gap to the rock pile so need to get into the crowd of boats just pick a line .
We ened our trip on sun. the bite had slowed but were still picking up fish just not as fast. Our groop of 14 brought home our 6 walleyes a piece. Most were in the 15″ to 16 1/2″ range. We caught pleanty of smaller fish and lots of overs as well.
On a side note with shinners being 24 to 34 dollars a quart a few of us tried a few other options. A few guys in our crew had luck with fat heads. I myself did not. I tried the new “alive” drug that aroud for 45 min with out even a nibble. I used varrious plastics from b-fish with out a nibble. I even resorted to blade baits ( a favorite on the river) blade baites produced 4 fish in 2 passes while the jig and minnow produced 4 per pass but it was still fun. untill next trip Have fun and stay safe.
