Cold Fish Report!

Fished from Sept. 30th thru Oct. 2. Needless to say the weather better favored the duck hunters than the fishermen. Strong NW winds kept most people along the North shore or in Cutfoot. We did get out early on Sun. morning, and I tricked my Uncle into going to Tamarack Pt. When we got there, the wind was just winding up for the day. We fished in 5 to 6 ft. of water and picked up a couple of the bigger fish of the long weekend, 22″ and a 24″. Well about this time, my Uncle was reaching for the “sea sickness” pills and was popping them like M&M’s!! He can’t handle the heavy water. So, reluctantly, I headed for the crowds along the No. shore and continued to catch, but the size was not there.
Did quite a bit of fishing along the windy side of Battle point. Numbers we not as good as on the big lake, but the size was a little better. Those fish were hanging a little deeper also.
Chased the Crappies also and caught a few in the usual areas in Macavity bay, but had the most luck in Little Cutfoot in 15 to 17ft, on the bottom.
Spent the last hours, of the last afternoon chasing big fish with topwaters in Cutfoot. (Or where ever we could get out of the wind!) Had 2 blowups but never connected. I think I was shivering so much that I pulled to quick!!
All in all, it was an enjoyable time.

    Thanks for the report,
I had to switch gears this last week and grab the dogs, as I was guiding grouse hunters. The lake turn over occurred the last few days which normally puts a hold on the bite, but with the forcasted weather, Winnie should be back to hitting on full cylinders again here in the next few days. Look for the Cutfoot structure to really heat up from here on out.
