Spent last week on Winnie at Tamarack Lodge. Mother nature and the fish were less than cooperative but I can’t say anything but praise for IDA sponsor Tamarack and owners Jeff & Laura. For those of you who haven’t visited them yet, put it on your agenda. They have put considerable effort into fixing up this resort and it shows. Nice big modern cabins with cable TV and plenty of electrical power. While we were there we watched construction taking place on two new units replacing some old cabins.
As for the fishing. Well a major cold front and high pressure made the bite a tough one. And 30mph+ winds on 3 of the 6 days made trips to town a priority. Something about west winds and 4-5 ft waves just isn’t condusive to pleasant fishing. Well 28F degrees and snow flakes added in don’t help either.
We did get out fishing when we could and managed to catch enough perch and walleye for a fish fry and to take a few home. Jig and minnow along highbanks in 3-7 fow was producing some eaters and slot fish. Also back in Cutfoot alomg the west reeds in 9-13 ft. Lindy rig and leeches worked well too. Trolled the north shore on Wed in 3-4ft rollers and put 16 northerns in the boat. Lost another half dozen also. All were 18-24″ except for one 27″. Also had a nice slot walleye. Gold shiner colored Rapala taildancer and Berkley Frenzy produced the best.
I know I will be back in the future to visit this nice resort and to challenge Mother Nature to another round. I figure it can only get better.
