The snow is dropping fast and we are 10 days before the GTG on this fishery. We are now entering some of the best fishing that anyone can ask for. This time of the year these perch are just beginning to put on the feed bags to help their body maintain the eggs within the females.

Where are we going to find them? Each day will tell that story. I myself will begin in areas of steep drop offs and look for areas that have a gravel bottom. Within that gravel bottom I will be looking for any area of soft silty bottom.

When fishing Winnie do not ever be afraid to UP size your presentation. If you have a lot of lookers but no takers put something down there that can be viewed as a threat to them fish. They will often times protect themselves by attacking it.

Put the coffee on Tamarack Lodge as I will be out there next weekend….IF I can wait that long with this nice weather we are having. Fifty degrees sure makes it hard to be contained at work all day!!

I will be using the 1/4th oz Perch Scenic Go Devil. Normally when fishing Winnie I use just one line. Once those active fish are located you don’t really have time to use two lines. When out on this lake don’t spend to much time on “sniffers”. 2-3 minutes in a hole that does not produce a fish is about as long as I will give them. Find the pods that are hungry.

52 degrees in the forecast for today! I can almost taste them now. I might make it until the weekend!

How do the jumbo perch on Winnie compare to the jumbo’s on Mille Lacs size wise?

Good question! I’ve never fished Winni in the winter.

I’ll let you know in a couple days…but I’m betting they taste as good!

They are pretty simular. Except i think you catch more little ones on winnie. But if you do get into the big ones you sure will catch alot of them. It seems that the jumbo perch were on the decline in that lake for the past 3-4 yrs and know i think they are starting to come back again. I have been fishing that lake since i was a youngster. It is a great fishery just like Mille Lacs.
