Four of us spent the week on Big Winnie and had a good time. Found enough perch to have two fish frys and the walleyes and northerns kept the fishing action steady. The trouble was catching to many big eyes!! The 17″-26″
slot makes it tough to get eaters but oh are the big ones fun. Lots of fish in the 19″-25″ range. Best action we had was trolling cranks. Also dragging spinner harness with crawlers. Leeches and minnows took a few fish but not as well as crawlers. The river channel area in Tamarack Bay produced well as did the north shore. Best action was in the 8-10 ft range. The deep lake humps didn’t have any action that we could find. Time of day didn’t really seem to matter. Bright sunshine and high pressure didn’t affect the bite too much. The weekends saw lots of boat traffic in front of HighBanks but the action varied day to day. Counted 43 boats in that area Thurs. morning. Some boats did well and others were skunked. Anybody needs more details just ask. This lake looks to be a great source for walleye fun for the future. The breeding stock is alive and well.
