Eelpout, you mean the poor folks lobster, at least that’s what I have heard it called many of times. On the south end of the lake, they catch some 8-10 pounders each year. Number wise I think the numbers of fish are there, but alot of people in are area perfer the perch and walleyes over the pout. I certainly don’t know a bunch of people who eat them, but there are people that keep them when they catch um. I can tell you from a guiding stand point, I have and don’t imagine that any of the guides in our league have booked an eelpout trip. As for your favorite recipe of pout, thats the only way I have heard of cooking them, besides smoking them. I have tried them before and it is pretty tasty, but I think the thought of eating such an ugly fish is what draws anglers away from keeping them.
