Well with the temperatures finally dropping, the first ice fishing on Winnie and Cutfoot will happen in the next two weeks. Right now the lakes are still open, but by the looks of the forcast, we should have some ice by the second weekend of December.
First ice on Winne and for the first month of the ice season can be very productive. The crappie and walleyes always seem active in the first month. The walleyes seem to be active early and late in the day. Try fishing the flats near the gap, also the humps in Cutfoot seem to produce some dandies each year. Crappies tend to hold near the gap of the narrows in the 20-30′ range. They as well seem to be active early and late in the day. I will keep you upto date on the ice condition, but get ready, because the ice season is getting close, I’m ready for it.
