It was your standard opening day of fishing. Cool temps and rain. The wind was just about right for drifting for that first walleye of the season. I had planned on taking my 520 Commanchie on opener but received an invite from fellow guide Tim Dorholt to fish with him and his daughter. This was Tim’s first fishing trip in his brand new Ranger 620T. I jumped at the chance to ride in the 620 and I was not surprised at the smooth ride. We caught many fish that were too big to keep but that was fine with us. Tim kept us on fish and we had a great day on the water. 1/16 and 1/8 oz Northland Fireball jigs, tipped with a small to medium size shinner was the ticket. We had to jig our offering aggresively to get a bite. We put in at Northland Lodge and stayed on that end of the lake. Today, I stayed home to spoil my wife on mother’s Day. I’ll have plenty of time on the water this summer. Happy Mother’s Day to all moms on your special day.
