and wondering if its worth bringing the atvs up with us, or will we be able to just run the truck around on the lake. Kinda iffy with all this snow coming…what do you guys think?

I read a report saying there is less than 6 inches of snow out there right now. When I was up there a couple weeks ago, I drove where ever I wanted. In fact, I went off the public access on the east side to avoid a road pass fee.

With the snow coming though…who knows.

    Good luck!

I would give Tamarack Lodge a call, I thought the snow was going to stay south of Winni? Look forward to hearing your report.

Been fishing Winnie most every weekend. You can drive all over the lake. Snow is about 6-8 inches deep but watch for drifts. Perch are going great with most in the 11 to 13 inch range. You will want to fish 28 to 30 foot of water. I have had great success with pimples as long as there was some red on it. Will be up there staying on the lake Friday to Sunday.

Snow looks like it will miss us. It’s going to be cold though so bring plenty of propane.

Got back yesterday from a short stint on big Winnie. Arrived Sunday and stayed at Highbanks Resort. Kim and Rick are really great and have made some needed improvments to the place. Nice to see a young couple trying to make a dream come true. Of course Kim being 8 months pregnant and Rick trying to keep the ice houses on the fish when they are 7 miles across the lake makes you wonder where they get the energy. I put 63 miles on the truck ice driving.

Travel on the lake is great. Rick has well maintained roads and with 6-8″ of snow on the top of 23-28″ of ice getting around was not an issue. Four of us brought home a limit of perch and also had some nice pike action on tipups. Even some perch decided that 1/0 circle hooks were not to difficult to swallow.
The fish are all on the NW side of the lake near Zoomers. 26 to 30 feet worked for us. Swedish pimples, buckshot rattles and single red hooks all connected when you found them. Had to sort alot of little ones but the jumbos made it worthwhile. Can’t tell you how much fun they are on the new carbon rod with 2# line( Thanks HOF )
Picked up some slot eyes off the perch bar but couldn’t find the eaters. All in all just another great trip and we got out of there before the bottom fell out of the thermometer.
