I was in the winnie area this past weekend…talked to a few fishermen who reported driving trucks all over the lake.. with 16″ of ice common.. I don’t think that is a good idea to do right now ..Lots of slush on many of the smaller lakes…I can only imagine what winnie is like .. Spotty walleye fishing but tons of perch, you have to sort through the smaller perch though …also they reported that no fish were biting on mid lake humps everything was being caught on shoreline structure…all that could change within a month though…
Good luck and let us know how you do!!!
Thanks for the info Calvin . Maybe the fish will stay close to the shore and I won’t have far to drive. I am hoping the weather takes a change soon. I agree with you, I’m not crazy about driving across this large body of water.
Last year we didn’t have to travel to far from shore, and did pretty well. We will have to keep an eye on it as the time goes.
Thanks Again.
I live on Lake Winnie and as of right now, the ice is very good. There are a couple of small ridges on the lake, but other than that, travel is good. Not too much water or slush. It stayed pretty cold yesterday so things firmed up nicely. Perch are biting very good in Tamarack Bay and along shoreline structure. You will need to do some sorting. Walleyes can be found in the late afternoon along the shoreline breaks and some of the midlake humps.
Hey Papa! I coming up your way this weekend. Have you heard if anything is happening down along the west shore? We are staying at Becker’s and will be probably accessing thru trappers. We will head to Tamarack if need be though. What’s the best way to access Tamarack? What depths have been best? Are any fish being caught deep? Thanks.
Bearplotts,
As I stated earlier. We are headed north on 9th of Feb and also staying a Becker’s. If your willing to give us an update after you get back that would be great.
Papa, I’m not sure I know where Tamarack is located. If your willing to help out a Wisc. fisherman that would be great. Keep the good information come and thanks in advance.

Tamarack Bay is the entire NE side of the lake. Everything east of Tamarack Point and the gap. You should be able to access through the resorts on the east side. Tamarack Lodge or Pines Resort. They will also have info on where the fish are biting on their side of the lake. This is about as far away for Beckers as you can get though. I’m sure there are fish on the west side of the lake as well. I heard they were catching some nice Perch about a mile north of Ravens Point in 18-23 FOW. Good Luck!
Papa,
Thanks, I just got my 2003 Lake master map of Lake Winni. I have been entering some of the WP indicated on the map on the West side. Are truck traveling from the public access near Beckers to Ravens Point? When I look at the map I don’t see Ravens Point, but I see Raven’s Hump, Ridge, Rock, but no Point. As the next few weeks go by please keep us posted if you are willing. I will be checking with Dale at the resort also. We would like to stay on the West side of the lake if possible, less driving and more fishing. Thanks for all the help,
JP
Started out north of the river channel and south of Sugar Lake along the west shore in about 9 ft. Five guys limited out on Thursday. After a fish fry that night we headed back out to the same spot Friday and found a much slower bite. Did some searching a little deeper to about 24 ft. with not much luck so went back to our shallow spot. Ended the day with 50 keepers. Saturday we split up and the guys that stayed shallow did better. Total of 55 keepers. Sunday we all stayed shallow and finished our possession limits up. Lots of small fish in shallow. For the most part it was site fishing and was frustrating when a nice perch would come in and the smaller ones kept the bait from the bigger. Sun finally came out Sunday and we did see a lot more nicer perch than we did on Friday or Saturday. I think a couple sunny days would get them real active. Ice is in excellent shape as there were Ford Excursion diesels pulling dual axel trailers around. By the time you go I would think the bigger perch will have moved deep but you never know. Good Luck.
Bearplotts,
Thanks for the great report. I have had weekends like that before. The group I go with enjoy the time and hunt, so we have fun either way. Where did you get onto the ice? We stay a Beckers and last year used the public landing just a few miles from their resort. I have heard reports of thin ice in the shallow area, and with the Might Mississippi running through there worries me a little
Last year we did okay around the River Bar location, we ended up fishing in about 30 fow.
Thanks again for the information, every bit helps.
Thanks,
JP
We accessed at Trappers Road which is the same road you are talking about I assume. The trails on the ice split shortly after leaving shore. One heads toward River Bar and the other shoots right straight across the river channel. I guess there is a pressure crack out toward Sugar Bar but we never got that far so I don’t know if it restricts travel to the main lake or not.
Thanks for all the great information. Another reason I like this site.
