Anyone been up to Winni lately? Will be up there later next week and would assume bars and humps rigging leeches.
Staying near the river. If you get any wind, is the shallow bite any good this time of year?

I fish Winni quite extensively (just finished 2 weeks on the lake). We witnessed the transition in fish from a shoreline bite to deeper water. Fish began to stack pretty good as of last week on the humps and rigging with leeches and crawlers was the ticket, with occasional fish on jig-n-minnows. The bite is definitely tougher this year with added forage in the lake, and a strong may fly hatch is around the corner as we began to see smaller ones. I am fishing there tomorrow and Saturday and will mostly run deep. On windy days you can still get something going shallow. If you are interested we have also found (new this year) a nice bit between 9 and 11 at night if you interested in fishing mid-deep rock. We may also pull some deep water cranks on some of the larger humps. Good luck!

Sean Colter is a local Winni/Pokegama area guide and he puts out a great weekly report. Sunrise Newsletter. Great guy, highly recommended. Newsletters are also in the archive from last summer.
