I spent Thursday-Saturday on the water. The fishing was excellent.
Thursday-got out fishing at about 5pm. We fished until 8pm and ended up with 4 keepers, 3 too big, and a few little guys. All these fish came off the rock/sand transition on the north end. (I know this because I finally got an Aqua-vu this year.
Friday-Headed to Mallard Point at 10am. Immediately started pounding the fish about 500 yards south of the point. Most of the action was is 3-6 fow. We immediately picked up a 19 and 21 in 2.5 fow! The fish moved out to 6-8 fow and the bite slowed considerably at 3pm when the sun came out. Friday night we found the fish on the north end again, but this time they were more in the rocks.
Saturday-high winds limited us from making the run to Mallards again. The north end was rough, but the fishing was awesome. We fished the rock/sand transitions and did very well again. Two triples and we had company in a hurry. We moved East away from the crowds and we kept catching fish. We caught fish from 8-17 fow. The majority were in 10-13 fow. A boat in our group did do very well on Mallards again on Saturday.
For three days we boated 40-50 in the 14-17″ range, 20-25 over 17″(biggest 23″), and 40-50 under 14″. The fishing was so good that we released everything outside of 15-17 inches.
Jigs and shiners were the go to bait. I also tried plastics and a lindy rig with very little success. In low light conditions, chart./green and chart./white were the go to colors. While the sun was out dark colors worked better, blue, dark red, black, and purple. I think finding a color different than everyone else was important. We were drifting the whole time. Sometimes with a sock and sometimes not. I am working on my dad to get another trip up there this weekend.
