I’m going up to Winnie for a 3 day weekend and was wondering if the fish have turned on in the shallows yet or not? I like to fish the rock pile up by Stony in the mouth of Third River or up on top of Raven Point from 3-6ft. Most years in October the fish are going pretty good here. Any news would be great.

    Where you staying?
Do you have a VHF radio in your boat??
I am going to be up there on Saturday and if the fishing is decent maybe again on Sunday. I will probably focus my efforts in Cutfoot since that is usually a more consistant/concentrated bite at least it has been in the past years for me. I am going to be staying just east of Longville at the family cabin and driving up from there.

Our family has a cabin on the Miss. where it exits Cass Lake. We usually find this time of year that Winnie produces better numbers and quality so we drive to the campground on the west side to load and fish from there all the way up to Stony. I’ll probably have a handheld marine band with me all weekend through Monday. Channel?

Not sure if you will get this or not but I usually use channel 19.
I also sent you a PM.

Ugly!! Just spent the entire days of the 6th and 7th on Winnie. We fished the North Shore from Stony to the Big Rock Pile and then into Cutfoot at all the regular places. The catching was very, very, poor! We saw a total of three walleye caught in the two days of fishing. We gave up early on the 8th but maybe they started to hit. By the way, we have never marked so many fish as we did in Cutfoot. We did not mark hardly any on the North Shore. Good luck to you!

Well you weren’t too far off. I fished Sat and Sun. Sat we had 4 eyes come to the boat 2 over 17″, 1 keeper at 15″ and one throw back at a whopping 8″…yeah that is 8 inches not 8 pounds.
Sun was a little better…I bounced around a lot on Sat and couldn’t find anything going other than the 1 spot we got the 4 so I stayed right in that area most of the day Sunday and we managed 7 total 6 keepers and 1 over 17″. Throw in a few snakes and a couple perch to keep us entertained a little and overall it was a pretty good day. We had A LOT of hits they would suck it in and hang on and I tried giving them some line, just dropping the rod tip back and they just wouldn’t have the minnow to the hook.

I am looking forward to heading up there again in the next week or so…I think the water needs to cool off a little more to really get the bite fired up…surface temps in cutfoot still ranged from 54-56 degress.

StaleMackrel …don’t you just hate it when that happens?

A few weeks ago, we fished for 3 days…the last morning we found them in little cutfoot. Awesome bite…and made us want to stay another day…but of course we couldn’t…

    I guess you can’t catch limits…or even a few fish everytime…darn it!
