Got back yesterday from an nice…relaxing week at Winni.
After trying worms and leaches on a lindy rig, we found spinners and shinners/fatheads to produce the best. A close second was a jig and minnow.
As the week went on. and the more cold fronts that came through…fishing for walleyes became harder and harder. It seemed that we would always get at least one eye when we went out towards the end of the week. We mainly were working Cutfoot although we did get out on to the big lake once before the wind came up.
My boat seems to become quite small in gusts to 30 miles per hour on the big lake.

I didn’t target crappies but we sure saw some nice ones come out of Little Cutfoot. These were caught on a crappie minnow and cork in about 9 feet of water.

This first picture is of my wife and kids when the fishing wasn’t exactly…”hot”.

As I said in the last post…as the week went one and the cold fronts passed through the fishing became harder all the time. So to take up some time….I started practicing my fish levatation trick…Haven’t lost my touch….

One more picture of a walleye that was returned to the water…(because it was too small for catfish bait! )

Ps the Northerns were snapping like perch…but it was tough to get anything that was close to two pounds.

    Good Luck!!

Well I also spent a very relaxing week on the water up there. Thought I saw you once but we were in opposite directions. Was definitly a tough week. The 6-8 footers on Wed made for a great town day. Thursday we braved it and got soaking wet but the bilge pumped worked well. As Brian stated we had a hard time with crawlers and leeches. I never did find good perch numbers or any slot eyes but did ok on eater size eyes trolling cranks. The 10-14ft flats from Tamarac Pt down to Birches landing were good as well as the north shore west of Stoney. The boy got a nice 31″ pike and even the better half had fun except for the big waves. She kinda had a grimace on her face and didn’t want to do that again!! But if you want a good off day, check out the Forest History Center in Grand Rapids. Neat place to see the story of the logging industry and has interpretive actors portraying rolls in a 1900 lumber camp. My son was hired on to shovel road apples for 50cents a day!! The fire tower was a good climb too. I’m ready to go back.
