Mayfly hatch seemed to have peaked the night of 7/15. We arrived on 7/16 to hoards of them on the buildings and in the water. According to the resort, others and our success it did affect the walleye fishing. We caught none but then again I did not fish for them after hearing about the bite. I did not hear reports of success. Perch were consistent. Most people at the resort were successfully targeting them. It took us a couple days to figure them out but once we did nothing but jumbos. Pike were not difficult to target once you found good habitat. The well known weed edge around the outside of the lake has not yet broke the surface so fishing activity on the edge is not up to speed yet accoring to locals. I found northerns in the Cut Foot where deep water near shorelines and and weeds was easy to find. This was my first trip to the lake so I definitely need more time to figure it out. Wind played a role in where we could go with our limited time there.

Boy the old mayflies are late this year! It’s generally around the middle of June when we get hammered with them…
