I was up on winni on june 4-6th….I had luck on the out skits of the crowds on or near raven’s and sugar points. the depths were between 10 and 12 feet….shallower with a chop and deeper with slick water. presentation needed to be beween .8mph and 1.2 mph regardless of chop or no chop. we had luck with fatheads using a fire tiger, or yellow or brite green 1/16 oz jig. use a lite to moderate snap and then let it drag for 5 to 10 seconds we were 50 to 70 yards behind the boat. the hit would come on the drag. we caught most of our keepers this way. the larger fish came on jumbo leaches on a gold spinner rig lindy style. i tie my own using hydro carbon 6-10 # test and a very small spinner (so it spins at this slow speed) and small hook. i put a little red or yellow bead between the hook and the spinner…..gold color on the spnner is the key. we also had luck with fatheads on this rig.
the keepers were between 13- 15 inches. we had no large keepers. the slot fish were 19 to 26 inches.
since the water was still cool (58) the tops of the bars were not producing walleyes but did give us pike and perch and one lowly rock bass.
good bites were found between sugar and ravens and to the east of ravens.
found some crappies in the downed trees on the mississippi river before and past beckers resort. bobber or pitching jigs with power grubs.
all in all the fishing was good. and the weather held for the most part.
