I was up on Big Winnie Friday throught Monday and boy was it windy, wavy, and wet. But despite these conditions, the anual Nigon fishing trip for the guys had the best fishing in 15+ years. We caught almost all our fish about 1/2 mile in front of the mouth of the Mississippi on the west side. Drifting (as boat control was impossile w/o a kicker motor) with a green, chartruese, or blue jig was hammering the eaters, with a few bigger fish. We ended up with about 10 slot fish, the biggest being 23 inches , plus 80+ eaters. All in all it was an awesome trip, besides the weather. But hey, I can stand crappy weather if i’m catchin fish. Hope this helps out anybody heading up to Big Winnie, and good luck to all.

Tony, What kind of boat were you in? We saw the same boat each evening on the way in and out of the river. We stayed at Beckers resort and caught alot also. Chartruse jigs and shinners took the majority of our fish also, with the occasional Snake thrown in. All our fish were 12-17″ and 2-3 over 17″ with the biggest being 23 1/8″ (That’s for you Warrior Riv!)Even with the Wave’s and rain it was a fun weekend. Oh yeah, very few fish on the bars,(Sugar, raven, stoney)they were there but would’nt bite much. Caught a couple on lindy’s with a pounded copper blade, but jigs far and away out fished them.Good luck to all that are headed up there.

Chappy, we also stayed at Beckers resort. I was always in a Alumacraft Lunker 16 with a Merc 25 on it. I was always in a Red Gander Mountain rain suit. What boat were you in? Maybe i saw you in the fish house or something. Good luck to all on Big Winnie.
